The Northbrook Knit Wits
Celebrating many years at Northbrook , this group has grown in size and in purpose. Friendships are established and its purpose has expanded by contributing profits from our sales at the November Alternative Gift Market to the Mission Committee and by providing prayer shawls to members and friends, reaching out with care for their health and well-being. As they knit, they say prayers for the recipient during the knitting, then the completed shawls are blessed before being presented.
Individuals also create their own projects, as well as teach knitting and crocheting skills interested participants. They appreciate the encouragement they have received and look forward to many more years of ministry together.
All skill levels are welcome and members are encouraged to invite friends and neighbors. The Knit Wits meet on the 4th Wednesday of the month.

Collections
CLOTHING CLOSETS: clothing for all ages is collected year-round for Westminster Presbyterian Church Clothing Closet and the Fort Street Open Door. Business clothing is taken to the Career Closet at Fort Street Open Door. Clothing donations should be left in the wooden bins in the main hallway near the center doors. This is quite an active ministry and we deliver donations frequently.
EMPTY BOWLS PROJECT: Add your loose change to the bowl on the name-tag table in the hallway. Your change is used to fight hunger in a variety of mission locations. It is amazing how quickly your small changes becomes a sizable gift to a mission in our community.
Fort Street Open Door
The fifth Thursday of the month is special for Northbrook’s members and friends who gather at the church and go Fort Street Presbyterian Church’s Open Door Program to volunteer. Join the group at 8 a.m. for a satisfying day working in the clothes closet, helping with lunch or chatting with guests.
Volunteers and staff make sure that those who are hungry, both physically and emotionally, get fed. They serve more than just soup, providing men and women of all ages with clothing, showers, medical help, haircuts, church services and services essential for self-improvement, as well as a venue for fellowship. For more information, please call the church office.
Mid and Senior Highs
With our mission activities we volunteer in a variety of different ways throughout the community. We learn about the needs of the people and find ways that we can be of service to them. In the past, we have helped at : Forgotten Harvest, Focus Hope, South Oakland Shelter, the Greening of Detroit and with the Northbrook Angel Tree.
